Health and Social Care in Criminal Justice
The Health & Social Care in Criminal Justice (HSCCJ) programme works to improve the range and standard of health and social care services for offenders and others in contact with the Criminal Justice System (CJS), both within prisons and in the community.
The programme is focused on building and strengthening partnerships between key strategic stakeholders across health, criminal justice and social care, promoting best practice and the sharing of appropriate information.
The aim of the programme is to ensure that people who come into contact with the CJS have their health and social care needs met in a timely and appropriate way. It also contributes to a reduction in re-offending by addressing those health needs which may be linked to offending behaviour, such as misuse of drugs and alcohol, or poor mental health.
